Icaria is an island under Turkish rule until 1912. The Turco-Italian war of 1911-1912 – resulting in the occupation of the Dodecanese by Italy – inspires the local population of Icaria to revolt against the Turks and proclaim an independent Icaria. Shortly after, Greek troops land on the island and install a provisional Greek government. The island has, subsequently, become Greek. Both the independent government of Icaria and the provisional Greek government have issued stamps.
