Slovakia was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire until 1918, then to become part of Czechoslovakia. In 1938 Slovakia gets its own parliament – like Czechia and Carpatho-Ukraine – as one of the constituent parts of Czechoslovakia. In 1939, when Czechoslovakia is overrun by Germany, Slovakia becomes a German protectorate. In 1938, and again in 1939, parts of Slovakia are ceded to Hungary, to be regained after WWII. Again, being part of Czechoslovakia after WWII, Slovakia becomes an independent state in 1993.
