This map shows the division of the Austro-Hungarian Empire after WWI. In red, the Empire before 1918, in black, the countries formed after the division of the empire in 1918. In 1938 Austria is annexed by Germany to form a part of the German Empire until 1945. The local issues shown on this map have been issued in different contexts. Some have been issued just after WWI by parts of Austria that vied for independence or association with Germany, some have been issued by local authorities as a premium for special services and some have been issued as provisionals during strikes.
