After WWII, Austria is divided into four occupation zones. The Republic of Austria is reinstated, in 1945, albeit under Allied supervision until 1955. Vienna is also divided into four sectors. Stamps are issued jointly for the American, British and French zones and separately for the Soviet zone. Several cities, in 1945, resort to local issues, particularly in the Soviet zone.
